(CNN) "The United States will not be escaping the obesity epidemic crisis anytime soon: Nearly 40% of adults are obese, the highest rate the country has ever seen in all adults, according to research released Friday by the National Center for Health Statistics."
Public health experts are concerned that the continuing rise in obesity will lead to greater numbers of people suffering from diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illnesses.
4 out of 10 Americans are obese? Well, duh. Portions have gotten bigger and, with both adults in a household working, there is no time to cook dinner for themselves and their kids, hence fattening fast food, pizza etc.
There are no good valid healthy reasons for being obese. In my non-medical opinion, there are 2 reasons for obesity. 1) A lack of knowledge about nutrition and 2) psychological issues. And, of course, no time to prepare healthy meals.
I suspect that many people don't know how fattening things like potato chips, burgers and fries, soft drinks and ice cream are. Or don't care. Even regular salad dressing can be fattening! The nutritional label is for a serving size of 2 tablespoons. Who only uses 2 tablespoons of salad dressing in a large salad?

Or people know something is a bad food but don't know what that means. Eat too many calories, i.e., a lot of ice cream and potato chips and other high fat foods - and you will likely be FAT.
Using a lot of fattening food as a comfort, or an escape from one's feelings, is another sure way to become obese.
