Here is my Stu Pitt keep-it-simple-stupid (KISS) solution to violent crime.
1. If someone is convicted of a violent felony the government removes one of that convicted felon's eyes.
2. If convicted of a new second violent felony at another time there is no additional eye removal.
3. If convicted of a third violent felony, at a later date at another trial, the remaining eye is removed. The convicted felon is now blind, with no eyes. 3 strikes and you're blind. Under this solution, after removal of the remaining second eye, jail time is not necessary and the blind convicted felon of 3-strikes-and-you're-blind could be released into society, blind as a bat. It would also reduce prison populations and the need for more prisons.
This 3 Strikes And You're Blind solution could drastically reduce repeat violent felony crimes as the blind felon would find it difficult/impossible to commit another violent felony having no eyesight and no eyes. It would also likely be a strong deterrent to committing a first violent felony, ANY violent felony.
Yes, this is a radical solution. But repeat offenders of violent felonies are not being permanently removed from society by state and local authorities and so perhaps a radical solution is necessary to protect America's 400 million law-abiding citizens and residents and visitors. Justice should be blind and, under 3-strikes-you're-blind, so would repeat violent felons.
