The Powerball and Mega Millions lotteries are bullshit. Rarely does anyone win the jackpot.
The jackpots for Powerball and Mega Millions are often too high. Hundreds of millions of dollars. Cash. That's high. Ridiculously high. But it doesn't matter because the jackpot keeps on growing, until somebody finally wins. The problem is that nobody wins, we players often have to play for months and months before somebody gets lucky and wins.
The odds of winning the lottery are higher than the odds of being hit with a meteorite. Or being killed by a swarm of hornets. Why are the odds so high? Because the lottery added more numbers to the group of possible winning numbers. People used to win the jackpot a lot more often. Now they don't. Months go by before someone wins it.
A lottery jackpot does not need to be more than $100 million. Cash. That's more enough to win, more than enough to live comfortably, or luxuriously, for a lifetime, if you are financially responsible. (the FIRST thing I would do if I won the jackpot is see a tax lawyer. Then, I would get a certified financial advisor)
My solution to nobody winning the jackpot? The Powerball and Mega Millions lotteries should hold a special drawing every time the jackpot goes over $100 million. They should have a special drawing in which SOMEONE who plays the special game actually wins $100 million, in cash. Maybe up the entry fee per ticket from $2 to $3. Or $5. Then, once somebody wins the lottery can start over, from like $10 million.
UPDATE:
July 19, 2022. Nobody won the Mega Million jackpot. Again. The jackpot is now over $600 million. Again. With a cash payout of $359 million. I rest my case.
UPDATE:
December 17, 2024. Once again, nobody won the Mega Million jackpot. The jackpot is now $825 million. Cash payout of $382 million. I rest my case.
December 20, 2024. Once again, nobody won the jackpot. The next drawing is December 24, with a jackpot of nearly a BILLION DOLLARS!
