I was looking forward to watching a movie, "The Batman" (2022) on HBO on Saturday night. There was nothing else on TV so I was very happy to have found this movie. A new Batman movie.
I sat down down and began to watch it. I was a little late starting, the movie started at 7:30 PM and I started watching at 8 PM. What I quickly noticed is that EVERY scene I was watching was d-a-r-k. Visually, really dark. I could not see the characters, or the action and had no idea what was happening on the screen. It was not only dark but everything in the scene was close to being black. This continued scene after scene. I became frustrated. After 20 minutes of this I turned off the movie. It was f-ing unwatchable! Too dark to see, too dark to watch. Based on what I had seen, or rather couldn't see, I give the movie an F. Maybe a D-.
WHY does Hollywood make stupid unwatchable visually dark movies? Because, for the past 2-3 decades, the writers, directors and producers of motion pictures don't know how to make a good movie. They do not know (or care) that in order for a movie to be good it should have a good story, a coherent and interesting plot, good dialogue, and rooting interest. And it must be watchable! Not dark, watchable!
Rarely, for these reasons, I do not watch any movies any more. Because all too often they suck. I mostly stick with TV shows. Today they normally make 10 TV episodes for the entire season. They used to make 20 episodes per season. With fewer ads. And, no I do not watch reruns, because I remember what happened in the episodes I previously watched. Back in the day there was no shortage of great TV shows to watch on network TV. Today, there's only a handful of good shows and you only get to watch new episodes for 10 weeks. 10 weeks out of 52.
We, the people are being deprived of good entertainment via TV, while paying for cable, premium channels and streaming services.
